Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Uniform Room Supervisor, perform alterations and repair of articles of clothing or other fabrics (pillowcases, sheets, tablecloths, etc.) using a sewing machine or by hand stitching. Maintain sewing equipment in good condition and repair. Maintain safety precautions in the sewing room using eye guards and finger guards and proper grounding of electrical connections.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure proper fit of clothing on each associate.
  • Examine uniforms and linens for repairs.
  • Make or repair articles of clothing or other fabrics using sewing machine, serger, or by hand stitching.
  • Make repairs to articles by patching, re-sewing, replacing parts and making alterations, using approved methods.
  • Insert or replace zippers in clothing and reset hemming in pants or dresses.
  • Repair curtains, pillows, comforters, chair cushions, mascot costumes, bed scarves, flags and other items.
  • Position and cut fabrics to specification using scissors and rotary cutters.
  • Baste or pin fabric parts together for sewing.
  • Track all incoming and outgoing articles of clothing in inventory system.
  • Check in and assign uniforms that were ordered or add new stock to inventory.
  • Utilize embroidery machine.
  • Maintain a positive and upbeat attitude being highly in tune to guest questions and needs. Work to ensure that special requests of the internal guests are properly handled.
  • Remain attentive, courteous, efficient and professional to all guests at all times.
  • Work as scheduled which varies according to the needs of the resort to include weekends, flexible hours and ensure maximum coverage of the uniform room for all three shifts.
  • Analyze a situation and make the best decision towards accomplishing a goal.
  • Report any unusual activities of departments or associates showing consistent disregard for our policy and procedures.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and order of the uniform and sewing room.
  • Ensure that all safety and security measures are adhered to in the area.
  • Complete work independently with minimum supervision and within time allotted.
  • Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

  • Minimum Requirements

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Three years sewing and alterations experience.
  • Experience with regular and serge sewing machines.
  • Experience with fittings, major alterations, resizing of garments and basic sewing machines.
  • Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.
  • License, Certification, or Special Requirements:

  • Native American preference shall apply to all positions.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the operation of equipment used in construction, alteration and repair of fabric articles.
  • Knowledge and experience with both regular and serge sewing machines.
  • Knowledge of department organization, functions, objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and meet strict time lines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with the individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to use a commercial embroidery machine
  • Ability to use GIMS software tracking for all uniform inventory.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to utilize sewing, serger and/or embroidery machine and alteration equipment in the alteration of clothing and uniform accessories.
  • Ability to maintain uniform inventory records using current software.
  • Ability to be tactful and professional, poised and friendly, attuned to detail and self-motivated.
  • Physical Demands:

  • Frequent use of hands, wrists, fingers associated with sewing operations.
  • Use of arms and hands. Reaches above and below shoulder level.
  • Regularly required to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Frequently stand, bend, twist, and walk for long periods of time.
  • Occasionally lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Work Environment:

  • Frequent walking and standing in a smoking environment and contact with the general public.
  • Frequent operation of sewing and embroidery machines.
  • Exposure to possible injury to hands from sewing machine needle and fabric cutting implements.
  • Work requires safety precautions and equipment.
  • Situations where safety equipment is needed occur.
  • Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
